Collecta: Real-Time Search Engine to Launch Soon
Collecta is building up as a real-time search engine. The site is currently not available for people to do searches of but they can see the real time updates for some trending topics like Obama or Swine flu just a sample.
On these sample pages, you can see the related items from Blogs, Twitter, Flickr and also the comments containing the given term in real time. The site is is set to be open for everyone this month and it will come with an API as well.
Currently, the results that are displayed are the ones just containing the term despite much relevancy. There isn't a link-indexing system in place and just a steady stream of data that may be in some way related to the search term. The website states about Collecta saying, "the web's most powerful real time search engine" remains to be seen. We'll be staying tuned for the full launch later this month.
Collecta's team includes CEO Gerry Campbell, formerly president of search and content technologies for Reuters, SVP of search for AOL, and AltaVista strategist.
